Changes ..

Posted on October 29th, 2008 by Niels

It is quite obvious that since the last post not much happened with our tours…
Due to unforeseeable circumstances we had to postpone the preparation and the start of the tours.

We will pick up on this by beginning on of the year 2009 to be there and ready for the first tours in June 2009. We also hope that the poor broken London will be back in it’s full glory.
Watch out this space for updates and for the first dates to come.

Sorry to disappoint all the people who signed up already…

Simplicity..

Posted on August 7th, 2008 by Niels

Someone gave me a T-Shirt some time back with a phrase saying ‘Make It Simple’. Now, being German and minimalistic plus an intense conversation with Mr. Lee made my brain kick in (oh what a feeling).

Why have an over complicated route, there is so much to see in London anyway. We will capture the obvious and also the not so obvious with a simple skate. It is basically the route we did a hundred of times already and we like so much. The first part stays as it is. BUT from Embankment we will hop over The Golden Jubilee Bridges (there are lifts) over to South Bank and heading east. We pass by the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Gabriels Wharf, underneath Blackfriars Bridge and arrive at the Tate Modern where we stop for a little break. Mr Lee loves the next bit where we cross the (former swinging) Millennium Bridge because crossing it on skates makes such a fantastic noise… Next stop is St Paul’s Cathedral before we reach Monument via Cannon Street. From there the route takes us back along the Thames reaching The Tower of London. Crossing the Tower Bridge on skates is probably one of the highlights of this skate (especially on a night skate!!). On the south site of the river again we head west passing the City Hall and The Hay’s Galleria before we hit London Bridge where the official part of the skate ends.

– Yes, it is a one way skate, sort of.

As Mr. Lee and I will need to go back to Hyde Park we will give the adventurous individuals of the group the opportunity of a free ride back to the Park. For that we will have no fixed route, we will apply the Cat and Mouse principal. One person leads the others follow… Great fun..

First test run will be probably on Monday 11 Aug. If that works out fine the first official date for a London Skate Tour will be announced shortly.

It is not that bad…

The other Sunday, when Mr Lee rested in bed with a cold, I had a closer look at the first part of our route. It brings me from Hyde Park corner to Belgravia passing the statue of Sir Robert Grosvenor the 1st Marquess of Westminster passing by St Peters Church and down to Victoria. The route touches the Royal Mews and brings me further to Buckingham Palace. I skate along St James’s Park once owned by Henry VIII and reach the King Charles Island before I continue down Whitehall to Westminster. Along the Thames it goes to Embankment and further down I reach Blackfriars…I realise how many historic sites are between the last two points … still loads of work to do.

Poor broken London!

Posted on July 17th, 2008 by Lee

Another route check and some bad news.  It would appear that London is very broken lately, there are endless roadworks, closed paths, scaffolding, demolished buildings and that’s just the sightseeing routes.  So we are in the process of updating the route to avoid all the broken parts of London.  Which just leaves the London Eye and Trafalgar Square :)

First Route Check

Posted on July 15th, 2008 by Lee

Myself and Niels did our first London Skate Tours route check the other day.  The route check took us from Hyde Park to Parliament and back again via Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square and a few other really interesting landmarks.  So we should have our first official London Skate Tours route available for you to see before August 15th.
